The rating description points out strong language, intense violence, and blood and gore courtesy of some of the game’s creepiest monsters, but it also lists the inclusion of “in-game purchases.” Right now, however, it is unknown what these microtransactions will contain, but given that this is a single-player survival horror game, it could easily be cosmetic and vanity items.
That’s not to say that there is no possibility for different styles of microtransactions in Resident Evil 2. After all, there have been single-player games with microtransactions that have affected gameplay. While that doesn’t seem too likely, it is entirely in the hands of Capcom.
As seen in the above summary, players are in for an intense ride, which should also be filled with nostalgia for Resident Evil fans. It has been confirmed there will be costume DLC present in Resident Evil 2 so it’s also possible that the microtransactions will be part of changing the look of the main characters.
Microtransactions aside, a lot of fans may be counting on the success of this survival horror remake. That’s because it appears that Capcom has teased a remake of Resident Evil 3: Nemesis if Resident Evil 2 does well financially. But considering the popularity of the remake, it certainly seems ready to meet that bar.
Resident Evil 2 releases on January 25, 2019 for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
