Sjoerd den Daas was reporting for Dutch public broadcaster NOS outside the National Stadium, also known as the Bird’s Nest in the Chinese capital where the Games’ opening ceremony took place on Friday night. Den Daas was speaking to the camera when he was interrupted by a security volunteer who started yelling at him and tried to pull him out of shot. Another guard appeared in front of the camera and tried to stop the broadcast before the confused anchor in the studio took over....

Smith is scheduled to be activated Nov. 10, but he could play as soon as Nov. 2 against the Rams if Goodell reduces the suspension and Smith stays out of trouble, according to the reports....

Needing to flip just five seats, the GOP is favored to win nine Democratic seats compared to a pair of flip opportunities for Democrats. An ABC News/Ipsos survey conducted three months before November’s midterms found that people believe the GOP would do a better job in handling seven out of 11 key issues than the Democrats. James Paul Gee, who is the leading researcher in video games as a language learning tool, suggests that certain genres of games could help “at-risk” learners in learning a new language. In Gee’s definition, a wide range of people can fall into the “at-risk” language learner category, including people with special needs, or those who are self-conscious to learn a new language in a traditional classroom setup where some people are afraid to make a mistake in front of their peers....

The study, which analyzed the blood of 8,700 multiple sclerosis patients and an additional control group of 7,200 people without MS, found that MS patients were 50 percent more likely to have a greater number of antibodies against human herpesvirus 6 (HVV-6). HVV-6 is a common strain of the virus whose variants—a and b—have been linked with eventual development of multiple sclerosis. The researchers looked at an additional subgroup of 500 people who didn’t have MS but had been exposed to herpes....
