Tennis Australia chief Craig Tiley recently revealed that the world’s best players on both the men’s and women’s sides will be serving their pre-tournament quarantine in Adelaide instead of Melbourne. That includes Novak Djokovic, Rafael Nadal, and Dominic Thiem, as well as Naomi Osaka and Simona Halep. But now, Serena Williams has also been added to the list of players who will be serving their quarantine in Adelaide. Raffensperger, who was endorsed by Trump in 2018, has received death threats and been accused of mismanaging Georgia’s election after President-elect Joe Biden came out ahead by about 14,000 votes in the initial ballot count. Although the state is carrying out a recount due to the relatively close margin, analysts and Raffensperger have said this is “unlikely” to change the final outcome. Meanwhile, Trump has repeatedly disparaged the recount effort and baselessly claimed that the election is being stolen from him....

In a tweet Tuesday night, the commander in chief said that unless Congress abolishes Section 230 of the 1996 Communications Decency Act, which provides social media companies legal protections against what content is shared on their platforms by third parties and users, he would “be forced to unequivocally VETO” the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA). The proposed House rules for the 118th Congress have been published and the 55-page document commits to establishing committees to probe the Biden administration, the COVID-19 pandemic and the U.S. relationship with China. House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy has used the rules package in part as a way to make concessions to members of his own party who are opposed to his election as speaker. The rules will not be passed by the House until a speaker is elected on Tuesday and there are doubts whether McCarthy will have the necessary votes to win on the first ballot....

GOP lawmakers derided the legislation, which was the culmination of two weeks of intense negotiations between top congressional Republicans and members of the Trump administration, namely over its price tag and lack of clear understanding over what’s in the bill. A new poll from Politico/Morning Consult found Republican voters are split on whether the description is correct. The survey, released Wednesday, showed 38 percent of Republican voters disagreed and said what took place that day was an “illegitimate form of political discourse.” Approximately one-third of Republican respondents agreed with the committee’s assessment that the events were a legitimate form of protest while 29 percent didn’t know or had no opinion on the matter....
